RECONOMY Takes a Step Forward in Promoting Energy-Efficient and Renewable Construction in the Eastern Partnership Region

RECONOMY, a program of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), implemented by HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation, focused on regional inclusive and green economic development, has taken a significant step to explore the transformative potential of energy-efficiency and renewable energy in construction and renovation for the Eastern Partnership region.

The regional hybrid event, held on 10 April 2024 in Yerevan, Armenia, marked a milestone for RECONOMY. It brought together like-minded changemakers of the region to jointly discuss challenges and seize opportunities in energy efficiency and renewable energy in construction and renovation.

The event was opened by Paulo Rodrigues, Program Manager of RECONOMY, who underscored the goal and projected impact of RECONOMY, emphasizing the transformative potential of energy efficiency and renewable energy in construction and renovation for the Eastern Partnership region.

In an era where climate change is intensifying and energy security is increasingly precarious, the energy efficiency and renewable energy sector stand out as a beacon of hope.  However, access to opportunities this sector offers is often limited for women, youth, and particularly the most disadvantaged groups. RECONOMY aims to bridge this gap by capitalizing on skills development, promoting the benefits of energy-efficient solutions to a wide audience, and supporting green employment and self-employment.

RECONOMY’s unique contribution lies in its focus on regionality. By tackling shared problems, engaging common actors, and understanding systems in countries, RECONOMY is setting a new standard in regional cooperation.

A panel discussion included key figures like Karen Asatryan from the Armenia Renewable Resources and Energy Efficiency Fund, Nata Jaoshvili from the Georgian Dynamic Energy; Vica Diavor from Zugro Prim, Moldova; and Valentyna Beliakova from the Women’s Energy Club Ukraine.

The event served not only as a platform for sharing knowledge but also as a crucible for inclusive dialogue aimed at overcoming barriers and paving the way for investment opportunities in energy efficiency and renewable energy within the construction sector. By leveraging existing knowledge and RECONOMY’s experience in cultivating green-building skills among youth and women, the event facilitated meaningful discussions among diverse stakeholders.

The event was live-streamed. Watch the video here.
